Arcadia Beach

Protected and Quiet

IMG_8063

Arcadia Beach State Park:  One of my favorite beaches on the Oregon coast.  It is located just a few miles south of the popular town of Cannon Beach, and by comparison, is much quieter, more peaceful and left more in its natural state than the tourist congestion of Cannon. I have waited for the light of sunsets and moonsets on Arcadia Beach many times and never tire of its beauty.  In the fall, the weather is often calm and the air is spiked with the occasional V-shaped flock of flying brown pelicans migrating north from California in the fall of the year.  These pelicans usually roost on safe areas like Haystack Rock or the estuary of Ecola River, both located near Cannon Beach.  With the receding tides, I can explore around the monolith rocks in the ocean and find lots of sea life on the rocks and in the tide pools like sea stars (formerly known as starfish), sea anemones and chitons, as well as mussels and barnacles in various forms.  If I’m very lucky, I’ll spot a tufted puffin.
